Volkswagen POLO TDi 1.2l water pump replacement

Hello,

It was a month my vehicle running with out coolant. There were no long trips and no high speed rash driving.

We packed up for a trip and total distance was around 300 KM. First 45 KM was city limit remaining are ECR highway. Coolant tank filled with water which was the first and known mistake.

Actual coolant oil only need to fill up properly and what was the general assumption on water as a coolant? water does 50% of actual work done by the coolant. Many will agree on this but that's not a fact. The fact is water alone will increase the engine heat rather than reduce it , the main reason is coolant oil's boiling temperature is very high compared to normal water and it does not vaporize  or produce steam.

Due to the heated water steam pressure, it spoil the seal in water pump while flowing through it.

So avoid water alone as a coolant. Keep in mind do not run the engine even for small trips with out coolant oil which will blow the engine gasket due to more heat. Engine like TDI gets more heat compared to normal diesel or petrol engine.

Replacing water pump may be an easy task but what are the risk involved ?

1. Timing belt need to be removed.
2. Removing water pump may spoil the belt tension.
3. Water pump should have cast iron pump attached which is way costly than the spare.
4. Timing belt configuration requires more time.

Time for a mechanic shed , this time Mahindra First choice in Mayiladuthurai.

Same story. "Sir ...Need to purchase the water pump from Chennai/ Coimbatore  as VW brand spares wont be available here as it does not have more movement"

Also i wanted to change the back wheel tyres. MRF 175/ 70 R 14 84T. 2 pieces. it cost around 3750 x 2 .

No need to mention it, no service charge for tyre replacement and wheel alignment.

Volkswagen Polo TDi 1.2 Trendline candy white 2012

Here is the Service story for my 2012 model VW polo TDi 1.2 candy white after 53K KMs done which handled roughly, very rough in fact.

I've dropped my vehicle to Volkswagen Chennai  ABRA motors. Ambattur. First we will see the present condition before move on the actual service.

Vehicle condition and behavior at present. ( Before service )

# Mileage is 18 and 13kmpl on highway and city roads respectively.
#.Front wheel brakes are catchy and sticky when you apply suddenly in hurry
# Pick up on 3 and 4th gear is less compared to one in very good condition but not worst. You need to apply full throttle to overtake a bus or a truck lorry which speeding around 60kmph and FYI with A/C switched ON..
# While switch on A/C you will feel the speed dumped. But A/C condition is good we get the chillness in seconds unless car is parked on shades.
# Clutch is hard. Normal weighed lady cannot apply it. Fortunately I'm not using it on city always and also  i'm little extra conscious on using clutch sensibly.
# Front 2 tires are in end stage, buttons are gone already.
# Service alarm beeping now and then every 5 KMs once. Engine light is glowing continuously.
# Windshield nozzles are not sprinkle water with pressure.
# Front door window glass regulator not in place.
# Rear right reverse bulb will not glow may be fused.

Here we are with the glimpse of Mayura Natiyanjali 2016. There are many Bharatha Natya dancers are participated in this 3 days ceremony, This is the 10th Year and show was gained good respect and popularized among Natiya dances who live india and abroad. kodus to the Sabthaswarangal Aragattlai.

Participant's number was high so do dances and the highlight of this 3 days occasion was Swarna malya's Shiva kannikai dance.

We could see lot of improvements from last time. First one is time schedule got followed very neat.
Second was sound system. Quality of the speaker and audio system was very high. Thanks to the Audio system-keeping people for their commitment.

Dr. Swarna Malya. From this event only i came to know that she got Doctors on Bharatha Natiyam.

She Performed a Shiva Thandavam, Forgive my less knowledge on Bharatha Natiyam terms.

And no-wonder that she eligible for Phd. It was an awesome performance from their troop from chennai.

Hyundai Accent CRDi Engine piston change

Hi All,

Speed is 90 to 100 kmph range, high way Bangalore to Salem. Engine started getting hitting sound like a  Eicher tractor engine. Sound was proportionate to acceleration . I'm thrilled,  to put foot on accelerator  pedal as if getting more cracks to engine and other places. Pulled over the car and enquired about near by Mechanic shed and got an answer.

The place was Valapady, after 30 KM away from Salem to Attur. Reached shed mechanic came and suspected coolant was not working properly but it was negative, coolant was fine. On the day of Vinayagar Chathurti, obviously, workers were on leave and luckily one Hyundai mechanic is free and he was a native guy ready to check the engine. I yet thrilled to know "whats going on".

I was explaining the things that happened to mechanic like crime scene eye-witness to police officer. He was silent and wanted to take a look deep down of engine and requested my permission for it. I was pleased to do so.

Another one-hour was passed, he was just completed with dismantling of engine head, dismantled pump, fuel injector, timing belt as well.

we have found an issue and estimation to fix it would be around Rs.20 k mechanic said. One Piston lost its grip out of 3. That was the culprit of noise To replace this we need to buy set of 3 Piston, connecting Rod, O-ring 3 liters of Engine oil with Lathe work
Lathe work involves, grinding the cylinder , polishing connecting rod, checking grip between Piston and cylinder. I've learnt below list from the incident that happened.

1. In Diesel engine , check the coolant oil before you start the trip, it should be filled if not.
2. Cylinder Piston assemble will not be come as single, all 3 piston-set need to be replaced even 1 gone
3. Temperature meter should be monitored periodically while we hop on Long trips.

Later around 12 Noon, I've put the things together to mechanic and decided to get the Bangalore to Karaikal passenger ( 56513 ) which was ideal to reach home peacefully. Train ticket was 50Rs from Valapady Gate to Mayiladuthurai.

Monday morning Sep 21st, on boarded Karaikal - Bangalore city passenger to Valapady, and reached shed cranked the engine and it was doing great. Still below complaints need to be addressed:

1. Head is corrosion-ed in the holes , that need to be welded and polished fine.
2 Clutch plate is having minor bend  and getting scratching-like sound while we engage the clutch at the speed of 0 to 20 kmph,
3 Power window's up and down functionality is not working sometime yet to find root cause of this issue for this electrical wiring need to checked.

Over all expense was Rs. 38000. Took the car back to Bangalore around 6.30 PM , hell lot of traffic and reached office by 9PM for the night shift.

And now its a history,  ready for my kid :) Journey continues as life.
